Why Catch & Release selected Coconut to outsource video encoding for its licensing platform
We are so thrilled to announce that Coconut partners with Catch&Release. Catch&Release discovers, curates, and licenses media across the Open Web. They provide both expertise and a unique platform to help manage the process and bring calm to the chaos of media licensing.
We had the chance to interview Michael Carey, VP of Engineering at Catch & Release.
Hi Michael, why did you decide to move your video encoding to the Cloud?
From the beginning we decided to use cloud video encoding. We're a small startup and we operate on the mantra of leaving anything that isn't our core business to people that know the technology better than we do.
Why did you choose Coconut?
We were previously using a different provider where the cost structure was untenable moving forward and the codec support was lacking. Asking our non-technical users to transcode videos before uploading was a non-starter.
How fast and handy was your integration with Coconut?
The integration generally went incredibly smoothly. The API is simple to use and the Ruby language integration worked as expected. We hit a snag with a particular type of video, those trimmed with Quicktime, but contacted support and had a fix out within a few days.
Coconut has allowed us to move forward much quicker and for much less money than the competitor that we were using.
