Adaptive Bitrate Technology

We are so pleased to announce that Coconut now supports HTTP Live Streaming for both iOS (iPhone, iPod, and iPad) and Android devices, including Sony Xperia™, HTC, Archos, Nexus, LG, Samsung smartphones series, and Google TV!

HTTP Live Streaming is an adaptive bitrate technology developed by Apple, Inc. that allows users to dynamically adjust the quality of a video stream based on the available bandwidth.

As a user watches a video on his mobile device, the built-in player will detect his connection speed and automatically switch to the most appropriate bitrate during playback.

This great technology is compatible with iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Android > 3.0, Quicktime and Safari.

With HLS, your users will always enjoy the best possible viewing experience, regardless of whether they are connected via WiFi, 4G, 3G, or even Edge. HLS is ideal for any cross-platform video project combining Web and Mobile playback.
